Survey of Hallucination in Natural Language Generation

چکیده
Natural Language Generation (NLG) has improved exponentially in recent years thanks to the development of sequence-to-sequence deep learning technologies such as Transformer-based language models. This advancement led more fluent and coherent NLG, leading downstream tasks abstractive summarization, dialogue generation data-to-text generation. However, it is also apparent that based prone hallucinate unintended text, which degrades system performance fails meet user expectations many real-world scenarios. To address this issue, studies have been presented measuring mitigating hallucinated texts, but these never reviewed a comprehensive manner before. In survey, we thus provide broad overview research progress challenges hallucination problem NLG. The survey organized into two parts: (1) general metrics, mitigation methods, future directions; (2) an task-specific on hallucinations following tasks, namely generation, generative question answering, machine translation, visual-language serves facilitate collaborative efforts among researchers tackling challenge texts

We describe a corpus-based approach to natural language generation (NLG). The approach has been implemented as a component of a spoken dialog system and a series of evaluations were carried out. Our system uses n-gram language models, which have been found useful in other language technology applications, in a generative mode. It is not yet clear whether the simple n-grams can adequately model ...

translation as a comunicative process is always said to be associated with various aspects of meaning loss or gain. subtitling as a mode of translating, due to special discoursal and textual conditions imposed upon it, is believed to be an obvious case of this loss or gain. presenting the spoken sound track of a film in writing and synchronizing the perception of this text by the viewers with...

A number of collections of papers from the field of natural language generation (NLG) have been published over the last few years: Kempen (1987), Zock and Sabah (1988), Dale, Mellish, and Zock (1990), and now the present volume. All have in common that they are derived in one way or another from workshops on the subject, and should therefore make available new and often exploratory research in ...
